School is officially in session! I am no beauty guru, but I know the struggles of trying to look put-together on the laziest of school days. Thanks to 100 Percent Pure, I created this natural, “no makeup” look to rock everyday of the week. I was very fortunate enough to attend the 100% Pure Maracuja Foundation Launch Event in July, and although it’s taken me quite a while to put out this tutorial + review, I wanted to make sure I gave all these products an honest try before giving you the full on lowdown. First and foremost, what I love about 100% pure is that all of their products are organic and are derived only from natural byproducts. I’m all for natural products because like most people, I am not blessed with naturally perfect skin. In high school up until a few recent years ago, I suffered from hormonal and cystic acne all over my forehead, upper lip, and chin (hence the scars that are still apparent if you watch the video closely). Since then, I am very particular about what products go on my face, straying away from as many “weird” chemical products as possible. And when I say weird, I mean staying away from chemicals or ingredients I can’t even pronounce. Luckily, 100% Pure knows that our skin absorbs! Therefore their mission is to create the purest makeup and skincare products that are not only healthy for our bodies, but for the rest of the environment. 1. Mattifying Primer
Let me first start off by saying this product easily jumped onto my list of holy grail products. I absolutely love, love, love this product. My skin type is combination-oily, meaning the shine-factor hits me most on my t-zone (forehead and nose) and chin. This primer, however, takes away that oily-looking shine without drying your face out as other mattifying primers. I apply this on a clean, and moisturized face prior to makeup and it leaves my face silky to the touch. One pump goes a long way, and it easily spreads all over my face leaving a nice velvety finish. What I love most is that it 1) smells amazing, and 2) it is not sticky or does not feel heavy on the face. Any primer that automatically feels heavy prior to foundation is a complete no-go. What’s inside: Seaweed collagen. The seaweed collagen not only adds to the amazing smell, but it also help plump wrinkles and fine lines. Applying this product first thing in the morning keeps me feeling fresh all day. Rating 5/52. Maracuja Mascara
Again, another product that smells absolutely divine. The color is derived from black tea leaves (how cool is that) and easily separates and lengthens lashes. Downside: after a couple uses, the mascara begins to clump. I am not sure if that is because of the brush, however I am a complete sucker for scent/flavored products (you can imagine my initial reaction to lip smacker products as a 90s kid) and I will continue to use this product until it is finished because it smells like strawberries! well to me at least, haha. Rating 4/53. Maracuja Air Cushion Foundation
And now for the star of the show, the now trending “cushion foundation” so many cosmetic companies have been recently launching. Yes, it has SPF. Yes, it smells great. Yes, it smells like peaches. However, with all that said, sadly, I would not use this product again. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this product, in fact it is perfect for that natural “no make up” look for everyday use, especially those going back to school. However it was definitely not made for my skin. To use this product, your skin needs to be near-perfect because the foundation is extremely sheer. Although the formula is buildable, the application is still too light to apply for even coverage on my face. The finish is also extremely dewy, which looks great on some people, however “dewy” is never a look combo-oily women wish to achieve, and the mattifying primer underneath is not enough to save it. I wanted to love this product, I really did, however it just doesn’t work everyone. Perhaps if they create a matte version of this formula, I will be more satisfied. I suppose I can use this product during the winter, however, when my face is dry and needs a subtle touch of dewiness to add a healthy plump back into the skin. Other than that, I will stray away from it during the sweltering, summer months. Rating 2/5
