On August 13th my alter ego, Luxe & Linen, turned 3 years old. It’s crazy to think that in back 2013, I was just a lost little puppy trying to break into the mold. Over the years, I’ve been asked the same thing by many and that is how I’ve found my personal style. If you’ve been rocking with me since the beginning, you probably will have noticed that I’ve gone through maaaaany phases all from grunge, bohemian, eclectic bold colors, etc., before I settled unto one that I could finally stick with. Here are three different ways that got me through the self-discovery of personal style.

Take off your shoes, and dip your toes.
Finding your own personal style is all about trial and error. You have to dip your toes into everything before you can settle unto one. I like to think of my current style as one that is effortless, minimal, but also not afraid to spice things up with the little details such as these eyelet heels from 4th and Reckless. Even though my past personas may be the opposite of what I represent today (80s, grunge, boho, glam), experimenting gave me the confidence I truly needed to rock the wardrobe I currently roll with. Perusing through a fashion magazine with all its newest seasonal trends, it’s so much easier for me to determine which outfits I like and don’t like, as well as incorporating certain pieces to achieve a look to is altogether me.
Pick out your closet staples
Many people think that closet staples include everything that is basic such as plain t-shirts, a little black dress, black skinnies, etc. While that is all true, your “personal style closet staples” should also include all the pieces that you naturally gravitate towards to, or your “go-to’s” if you will. My round-up includes everything from mom jeans, boyfriend jeans, deep v-neck tops, a leather/jacket, and culottes. Season-wise, during the Fall I rock boots of all kinds, fur during the Winter, off-the-shoulders in the Spring, and denim cut-offs in the Summer. Mixing seasonal pieces with your closet staples not only keeps you on-trend, but creates a look that is still purely you! Top Club Monaco (similar here)

Comfort + confidence is key.
This should be a no-brainer, but just as a reminder, you should always be comfortable in everything you wear. If you don’t feel comfortable in wearing 4 inch heels, don’t force it. However, if you feel comfortable rocking a crop top in the middle of January, then by all means, rock the crap out of it. What I want to stress is that if you are wearing anything that doesn’t make you feel like a queen, then it is evident by the look of your face and overall body language. Comfort is confidence, and confidence is key. Whether your out on the town or “hair tied, sweats on, chillin’ with no makeup on,” your clothes should always make you feel like your best you.
Thank you guys again for all the love and support these past 3 years. I don’t say this enough, but you guys are amazing and the only reason why I keep going. Here’s to another 3 years, and much, much, more.
